Whey protein only comes in a powder form, but again, you can easily make it into a smoothie at home. Muscle Milk definitely rates better on the convenience scale, though.
Both Muscle Milk and Whey protein have around the same absorption rate of 90 minutes.
Whey protein comes out on top as far as protein content with a whopping 26g per serving. Muscle Milk only has 16g. There are also about 30 more calories in Muscle Milk than there are in Whey protein.
As far as how much it will hit you in the pockets: Muscle Milk costs anywhere from 15-20% more than traditional Whey protein. Whey protein is certainly the more affordable option.
Muscle Milk vs Whey – You Decide
It would seem from just looking at the basic statistics of Muscle Milk and Whey, that why is less expensive, more protein, less additives, and the clear leader of the pack.
However, what you have to consider is the reason that you are choosing to take a protein supplement. If it is for weight gain, the added ingredients and more calories will help gain weight.
Other people are very sensitive to flavors, and Muscle Milk’s variety ends up being an appeal. Plus, the many varieties that it comes in is also convenient for people on the go.
If you’re looking to lose weight, however, you’re going to want to stick with Whey protein and just learn how to mix in some healthy things along with the powder to improve flavor. (Think: Strawberries, Bananas, Pineapple, Applesauce, etc!). You can also pre-mix smoothies in advance to cut down on the inconvenience.
