Where does the Image of the Ideal Man Come From?
Just flip the pages of any Men’s Health, GQ, or any fitness advertisement and one will see it; a tall perfectly sculpted man with six pack abs, bulging biceps, and a pronounced chest. Now this ideal image of the “perfect man” comes as no surprise especially when one considers the amount of images out there of the ideal woman (with different standards of course).
Neither of these standards is very shocking in this day in age. Sex sells and businesses have always taken full advantage of it. However, if the media and other businesses are convincing the public to believe that the ideal man has big muscles, then how do women feel about this perspective?
Do Girls Like Guys with Muscles?
In short, yes. If one is analyzing female to male sexual attraction from an evolutionary perspective, females prefer males with large muscles. This theory is rooted all the way back to pure primal human instinct. A woman is naturally going to be more drawn to a man who appears big and strong. Through this initial observation, a woman can get a sense that she will feel safe and protected by the man’s side. Large muscles on a man signal to a woman that he is dominant and will be able to fight off predators that will attack her and their offspring. These muscles also signal that the man is healthy and capable of producing children with the woman.
If these analogies are brought to the twenty-first century, the roles would be roughly similar. If a woman is interested in a man with a large muscular build, then she is subconsciously looking for a dominant mate she feels safe and secure with and who will also provide her with children. However, this is not always the case and many women prefer a different amount of muscle on men.
It’s Not the Only Thing Girls Like
Sometimes, a guy’s personality is the first priority for women. A man can hit the gym all he wants but if doesn’t have the charm, the humor, or the sensitivity then some girls may be turned off. Along with the large muscles and gym rat reputation come the stereotypes associated with us guys; arrogant, narcissistic, unintelligent, etc. A stereotype does not make these labels true, that is why it is called a stereotype, but maybe these generalizations are widely held by females.
Nonetheless, the question being answered here revolves around muscles, not personalities. There are all sorts of body types out there and regardless of what evolution or the ideal image might be selling the general public, every woman has a different fetish.
Many women prefer men who have a skinnier build but many also prefer men with more of a stocky build (broad body frame with a pronounced belly). It should never be said that all girls prefer muscular men or all girls prefer skinny men because they all have their own unique tastes.
In general, it should be noted that most women do not like their men to be too skinny as it looks unhealthy. This goes back to the evolutionary perspective. Even if the guy has a thinner build to him, some muscle tone distinguishes to a woman that he can play the dominant role and provide her with vibrant offspring.
The answer to the main question here is entirely subjective, but in general the conclusion is yes, girls like guys with big muscles. Now that we already covered this, here is a list of cool and useful gift ideas for your hiker boyfriend 😉.
